Argentina, all TV series toys, an important industrie and hobby .....
During the 80s, Argentina opened to the world's latest innovations. Television was one of them. From being a luxury good, only a few houses owned more than one black and white television, and many others just didn't, TVs began to be accessible to many families... color TV was a boom for children and parents. And while movies still were the entertainment place per excellence, TV shows began to be more and more sophisticated and attract a great deal of audience.
The Latin version of the hottest American series was the biggest hit uptill those days. Among the most ranked ones were Airwolf, Knight Rider, The dukes of hazard and V invasion. And the list goes on .......
It was the time when games changed significantly, from balls and dolls, to characterized and disguised adventures and combats inspired in those series' plots. Kids and adults gather around the TV set to enjoy the latest adventures of their newest heroes.
The impact was immense. Everybody talked about those series, their characters, even the movies, or TV movies were great hits over here. Such was the success that all sorts of merchandize was released following those themes. There were 100% original items, games, action figures that were made in the country under special licenses and of course there was a large variety of copies that ranged from very good to poor... Though this would seem a catastrophe to the copyright owners, to me is just a reflection of how popular and beloved were these series and its merchandize, how deep had they got to all social standards in our society that everybody had the chance of accessing some -at least- products.
The variety of theme items was huge, as well as the quality variations... there were even adaptations to the local market!
After the first and most impressive boom, those series were never erased from the 80s generation's mind... reruns, comebacks... and now retro fashion have kept them actual. At the same time, we -vintage toys lovers- have rescued some of these outstanding items from wholesales in toy shops and flea markets, for they are cultural treasures and should be treated as such.
