Austin J40 Pedal Car for Peron
Topic: Toy Museum, Research Work

Austin J40 Pedal Car Argentina
About the Austin Pedal Car J40, .... Bob Frassinetti Austin pedal cars were made in England by Austin Motor Company Limited. Available models were the Junior Forty (J40) and the Pathfinder. The J40 Roadster was based on the 1948 A40 Devon and Dorset. The Pathfinder Special was based on the Jameison OHV 750 Austin Seven racing car of the late 1930's. From the sales brochure for the Austin J40 Pedal Car: "Austin J40 cars are made in a specially constructed factory at Bargoed in South Wales. Here, in good conditions with the guidance of an experienced rehabilitation officer and under the supervision of a doctor, disabled Welsh miners are able to find a new interest in life and do a job of work that is both useful and congenial. There are employment facilities at this factory for 250 men." The pedal car factory opened on July 5, 1949 and was called the Austin Junior Car Factory. It was actually paid for by Government funds and it was run on a not-for-profit basis and purely for the employment of the disabled coal miners. The factory had a floor area of 24,500 square feet and was tooled up by the Sheet Metal Planning Department. Production started of with the Pathfinder and it was planned to build 250 a week, but unfortunately this figure was never reached. After a year the Pathfinder was dropped and was replaced in 1950 by the J40. The cars were made from scrap off-cuttings of metal from the Longbridge Austin motor car factory and were built and painted the same way as the motor cars themselves. The J40 was a very well equipped toy of excellent quality and was probably the best pedal car on the market at the time. It featured real working headlights and horn, detachable wheels with Dunlop pneumatic tires, real like facia panel and leather cloth seating. It had an opening bonnet and boot and also a lot of good quality chrome, namely both bumpers, hub caps, grille, boot handle, and center bonnet moulding with the Flying A ornament. It was later dropped because of a change in the law. It was claimed people could injure themselves on the mounted bonnet badges if they rolled on to the front of a car. The J40 sold for 27 pounds plus 6 pounds added purchase tax, while the Pathfinder cost 20 pounds plus 5 pounds purchase tax. At the time the average working man would have to save 2 or 3 weeks full wages to buy a J40. The J40 was primarily intended for the American market but it also established its own export markets in Denmark and Canada. The Austin pedal cars eventually were to be found in homes around the world. The Austin pedal cars were used for many purposes. They were used to teach road safety to school children and appeared in many road safety films. Pedal cars were fitted to roundabouts at fairs. These cars had two steering wheels and did not have any pedals. Some were single-mounted on coin-operated rides. Some pedal cars were later converted to gas engine power. Some of the gas-powered cars had the bodies "stretched" to make room for taller drivers. There was a total production of 32,098 Austin J40 pedal cars. Production stopped in September 1971. The factory was later used to make parts for the 'A' Series motors. The Bargoed Plant closed down on April 30, 1999 - 'A' series rocker covers were still being produced alongside other small pressings for Rover Group products.

Alberto Olmedo el negro olmedo
Topic: Toy Museum, Research Work
 Alberto Olmedo el negro olmedo
Alberto Olmedo, better known in our country as El Negro [1] Olmedo Alberto Olmedo, better know in our country as El Negro [1] Olmedo, was one of the finest and most avant-garde comedians in the history of Argentine comedy. He pushed the limits within TV, cinema and humor. Playing in the edge of the irony and acid humor, greatly appreciated by intellectuals and the public in general, he was daring and awesome, he died too young, leaving an empty place that hasn’t been filled yet. Even nearly 20 years after his sudden death, in reruns and in the popular memory he’s the owner of our laughter, jokes and two senses. He was a stepping stone in our comedy history, in our history as a society. He was born August 24th 1933, in the lower neighborhoods of the second industrial city in Argentina, Rosario, in the province of Santa Fe. He was the son of Matilde Olmedo, a young and hardworking woman. Their condition was poor, so he had to work all his way through elementary school up. His first encounter with comedy and art was when he was 18 and took part of the Asturias juvenile troupe. He took part in many local shows directed by one of his beloved friends Juanito Belmonte.

Alberto Olmedo el negro olmedo.

By 1954 he decides to travel to Buenos Aires to try his luck at the center of the arts. He soon gets a job at the State Broadcast center in the old Channel 7. He was a technician, but soon he would prove his acting skills to the network executives… On March 12th 1958 he weds his first wife Judith Jaroslavsky with whom he would have three children, Fernando, Mariano and Marcelo. By 1960 Olmedo’s luck will take an unespected turn, when he becomes the central icon of children television with his show Captain Piluso. In 1962 we would all discover the adult humored Olmedo in JA JA operation, a show by the famous show biz brothers Hugo and Gerardo Sofobich. No Toca Boton would take him to channel 11, alter several years in channel 9. He would be the leading man of the leading show, with the network’s highest rating. Where he would create famous characters such as El Manosanta, Perkins, Chiquito Reyes, El dictador de costa pobre, etc. In 1968 after two years had gone by after his divorce of his first wife, Olmedo marries Tita Russ. He will have two children with her, Javier and Sabrina. Soon he would enter the silver screen with his unique comedy style bordering the limits of sex, lust, humor and double meaning jokes. His career was an ever-growing challenge to which he was always outdoing and improving. He dies young in 1988 in Mar del Plata beach resort, falling from his apartment’s balcony. Today he is a humor maker icon to Argentines of all ages and times. That’s why his son Mariano Olmedo, on the ocation of the 50th celebration of Olmedo in the local show business, created a special event and exhibit to homage his father and his everlasting talent. Aboard one of Argentina’s auto industry greatest trade marks, hotels and true amazing food. The best way of enjoy Argentina is as its lovers do: in style, sophistication and taking the pleasures of life.

Link to Photo Album ESTANCIERA IKA1963 Jeep Willy from Argentina

Link to Photo Album Ruta 40, Route 40

Introduced a year after the first civilian Jeep vehicle the Willys-Overland all-steel station wagon is an auto industry icon and milestone. The original Jeep vehicle was born of necessity and hand-built in just seven weeks with lots of hard work and genius to fit the US Army needs back in World War 2.
The Army put out a call to automobile manufacturers asking for a running prototype for such a vehicle in just 49 days Willys Overland ended up supplying more than 330,000 units.
The evolution of the 1946 Willys Utility Vehicle has come to our days as Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, a true trademark of 4WD and utility vehicles.

The 'Jeep' station wagon had pressed steel framing and three-tone paintwork which simulated the wood look. It used Jeep running gear and MB-style front sheet metal and was designed to compete against the "real" wood wagons still being manufactured by Detroit's Big Three. The new vehicle chassis was also available in a sedan delivery truck. Four-wheel-drive would become available in these models in 1949 along with the 148 cubic-inch 'Lightening' six-cylinder engine.

The 50s saw Willys-Overland four-wheel drive all-steel station wagon develop and conquer the world, and even licensed out its manufacturing to companies in Japan and Argentina.
In 1953 Willys-Overland, the original developer of the Jeep vehicle, was sold to the Henry J. Kaiser interests for $60 million. In our country, the original Willys became Argentine Kaiser Industry –IKA- trademark under the new concept of Estanciera 4WD.

The ownership of Willys has gone a long way now… The story tells that by 1950, Willys obtained a United States Trademark Registration for the Jeep trademark. Since then, ownership of the Jeep trademark, which is also registered internationally, has passed from Willys-Overland to Kaiser to American Motors Corporation, and most recently, to Chrysler Corporation. Today, Chrysler Corporation owns over 1,100 registrations for the Jeep? trademark throughout the world.
