Topic: William Kuitica
Guillermo Kuitca, William Kuitica... is at this moment the most important Contemporary Argentine artist in the international art scene. He studied with Ahuva Szlimowicz and at the prestigious university of Buenos Aires where he graduated as an Art History Major. But long before those studies when he was 13 years of age he held his first individual show at the Lirolay Gallery. Together with Osvaldo Monzo, Pablo Bobbio, Ernesto Bertani and Miguel Melcom, Kuitca was part of the Grupo III, an avant-garde art group in Argentina.
Guillermo Kuitca put his first European show when he was 24. And in 1985 and 1989 he participated of the International Art Bienal of San Pablo, Brazil. From then on he showed his Works permanently in the US and Europe. Critics agree to say that his works are a specific kind of paintings that combines intimate themes with autobiography references and link them with universal matters. Throughout his first works he worked on modern concepts such as dislocation and separation based upon his family history of immigration. Not long after this journey of introspections he began to explore a map like links into a space and it’s problematic. And his works begin to show a thorough work into unopen space and sights.
Several International Galleries and Museums show Kuitca’s works, not only as a renamed Latin American gifted artist but also as a top notch contemporary artist, no extra labels. "Art of the Fantastic: Latin America, 1920-1987" held by the Indianapolis Museum of Art and MOMA held a special retrospective show on his life production.
