The Couch Surfing Project
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Argentina Travel
The Couch Surfing Project! Join up TODAY! Traveling is one of life’s most amazing experiences. The feel of discovering new and interesting cultures and societies is great. However not only traveling means spending some big money –even if backpacking- but also that getting to know interesting people is not always as easy as it seems before our departure. It takes a while to catch the grasp of a particular culture, and to discover those amazing places that one can share with special individuals like ourselves. And if you have time but no money on your side when traveling, both being a precious commodity, needn’t to say that the money-time relationship is in many ways a restriction to the variety of possibilities that one is able to explore during the visit, the Couch Surfing is for you. In this sense the new project carried on by an American citizen couchsurfing.com is an amazing an alternative option. People around the world who love to travel and are keen on receiving interesting visitors only listing their contact information on the site can take part in this global cultural exchange program! I know for sure this is a great option, that’s why I began to participate actively. I, that have traveled around the world several times and met tons of “lovely people”, have began to take part in this project. Join Up today, sharing your couch is the first step to travel and fun! For more information you can email me or go direct to there web site:Email Bob Frassinetti. Press here to go to The Couch Surfing Project. The Couch Surfing Project.

Football Soccer trading cards made in Argentina
Topic: Toy Museum, Trading Cards
"Those darn hard ones" A history of the Argentinean football trading cards
by Rafael Bitran & Francisco Chiappini.

Soccer, football, has been one of the world?s greatest passions throughout our recent history. Young and old, boys and girls take part of this worldwide crowd that enjoys not only to perform and play football but to attend matches, watch them on TV, listen to them on the radio and talk about them afterwards.

Being such deep part of our everyday life we find out that football?s history goes parallel to ours. At least once in our life we played ball, went to the stadium to cheer for our team, burst into the happiest cheer when our team scored that special goal and into tears when we lost against our classic enemy.

Football theme trading cards are like historic snap shots on the best moments of the history of Football. The?those darn hard ones to find- is not just a book on the history of Argentine trading cards se particular trading cards are an amazing record that by means of images portray outstanding moments, players, teams, soccer stadiums, moments of joy and other bitter ones. Apart this record-like feature, trading cards are one of the very first collecting activity of any child.

Malditas Dificiles on football, but a treasure book on a key aspect of the Argentine popular history. The authors are a couple of professional historians and sociologists who have been true to one of their hobbies and have lifted it into the world of popular-folk history. Featuring a detailed research work of each collection ever made, working on the available items and information to provide the fan and collector a complete catalog like book on Argentine Football trading cards, this book is a great stepping stone in the world of collectibles like trading cards made in Argentina

"Initially, the collecting of trading cards or as they are called in Spanish "figuritas". trading cards had been, almost exclusively, a girly entertainment. But from the beginning of last century, it has become a “genderless” hobby. Both, boys and girls, young and old, sought to fill their collection in order to get the prizes –either a ball or a doll-....... "

Book in Spanish, but for our English reader it goes with a transaltion.

"MALDITAS DIFICILES"
...una historia de las figuritas de futbol en la Argentina...
Rafael Bitran y Francisco Chiappini.

Cultural Faux Pas
Topic: Argentina
Cultural "faux pas" in Globalization times.

In a world were boundaries are dropping day after day, frontiers are virtual in so many aspects of our every day life that the mere thought of such intense and deep cultural divergences is, at least, strange.
A faux pas is a false step; the origin of the word is French though it has been adopted world around.
I recall upon an anecdote my daughter told me after she traveled for the first time to Europe. She was backpacking with her best friend and met a group of very nice English youths. They arranged to meet later on for a couple of drinks and when the girls (my daughter and her friend) arrived to the pub they leaned across the table to greet them with a kiss on the chick. I know that most of the Anglo Saxon readers would find that to be quite awkward, but in our Latino culture it’s the polite way to greet someone you just met. I mean not leaning over the table and making such mess but with a kiss on the chick that’s actually not a kiss but more of a cheek to cheek smooth sec.

The list of cultural faux pas could become endless if wish to assimilate a different culture beforehand. My advice is somewhat double, first learn the basics of the language, learn how to say you don’t speak the language, ask for aid and translation. It’s important in this case that you take patience in the translating process. I recall upon a scene of Lost in translation the movie...

The second one is to learn to laugh from your mistakes. We all make them, the key is to know that the other one is not meaning to be disrespectful; it’s just a matter of different social and cultural codes. Cultural "faux pas."
